With music, we see reworkings and reuse of traditional gospel songs, tunes like ‘We Shall Overcome’ or other historic classics such as ‘Lift Every Voice and Sing’- the NAACP anthem. In addition to these rallying, hopeful pieces heard on the frontlines of protests, contemporary works speak to new, old, and retold struggles- the success of these Black artists and their work actively fighting against underrepresentation and misinterpretation of Black figures in the media.
